November 2024

1. The Guild holiday party will be back at Heavy Seas, on Saturday 12/7. It will be held in the other building toward the end of the parking area. The space will be big and rectangular so everything will be viewable at once. We will have a club table. Theme is tailgating. Some food ideas are mac-n-cheese, meatballs, wings, smoked sausage, and pork sliders. There is a sign-up Google document at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JkytxIw-fiOq8YuLYFaxCiwQoqw0pzdVsyhNHbfPI2k/edit?gid=1984564644#gid=1984564644

2. Patterson Park 5K and homebrew contest will be Saturday 12/7 (same day as Guild holiday party). Fun run at 11:00 AM. 5K run at 11:30 AM. Beer garden opens at noon. Event website: https://bit.ly/PP5KHB24

3. CRABS now has 2 barrels.

  • Barrel #1 is mostly filled with stout. Some brewers removed theirs last Saturday, and some fresh stout was added. Other brewers will get their portion before the next beer, a Belgian quad, is added sometime in the next few months. One gallon of the stout has been chilled and carbonated and will be served at the Guild holiday party.

  • Barrel #2 is filled with English barleywine. We mostly filled it last Saturday, and this morning it was topped off. There is about 0.75 gallon left for replacing the angel’s share. We will probably need more eventually since more than 0.75 will evaporate over the next 6 months.

4. Congrats to Justin for taking two 2nd places and a 3rd place at the Stoney Creek homebrew competition.

5. Tom Pagano’s Mystique Barrel Brewing and Lager House will have its grand opening this Saturday 11/23 starting at noon. Also, Max’s will have 10 Mystique beers on tap on Thursday 12/12. See Mystique’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/mystiquebarrelbrewing

6. This month’s competition was porters and stouts. There were 8 entries. Winners were:

  • 5th – John Bugert
  • 4th – Brian England
  • 3rd – Peter Werle
  • 2nd – John Jester
  • 1st – Joe O’Keefe

7. Next meeting: Wednesday December 18. No competition. Bring food/beer to share, and a 750/bomber/cans for the bottle swap. Also bring some gift beer for the Heavy Seas staff.
